Macedonian is an Eastern South Slavic language. Spoken as a first language by around 2 million people, it serves as the official language of North Macedonia. Macedonian developed out of the western dialects of the East South Slavic dialect continuum, whose earliest recorded form is Old Church Slavonic. Macedonian vocabulary has historically been influenced by Turkish and Russian. The language is most closely related to Bulgarian and is written in the Cyrillic alphabet. North Macedonia’s economy is closely linked to Europe with plans for further integration, thus raising the prospects of increasing demand for Macedonian translation services.
