Is AI voice-over an alternative to human voice-over?

A client approached us with a type of request that’s rapidly becoming the new norm — localized AI voice-over, tailored and polished by a human. Let’s see how we approached it, taking into account the project’s tight deadline, big scale, and limited budget.

The task: Create localized audio files narrated by AI voices and sync them to the client’s videos

The challenge: Define requirements for AI-generated voices and ensure they sound natural, have correct pronunciation, and deliver the right message to the target audience

Scope: 2 target languages, 2 voices (male and female), 79 source audio files, 22 minutes of total voice-over time, 24 hours of production time

Our solution:

1. We used ElevenCreative by ElevenLabs to generate several suitable options for AI voices, tailored to the target languages. The client approved their preferred voice for each language.
2. The chosen voices were adjusted to match the tone of the content (speed, style intensity, consistency).
3. We created a pronunciation guide for numbers, abbreviations, and specific terms.
4. Our linguist, who specializes in both target languages, created localized audio tracks, ensuring they sounded natural and fluent. This was the most complex and labor-intensive stage, requiring multiple rounds of fine-tuning.
5. The final audio files were synchronized with the videos by adjusting their speed, shortening pauses, and tuning expressiveness for the perfect fit.

The result: We delivered 158 target audio files that matched the content style and fit seamlessly into our client’s videos.
