Does your localized AI dubbing sound natural but run longer than the original?
If you want both natural-sounding AI voice-overs and natural lip syncing, you can’t simply generate the audio and send it to an AI tool. Timing has to be engineered first. The reason is that a translated script is rarely the same length as the original. It can run slower or faster than the source, leaving the audio out of sync with the original video.
We recently developed an e-learning production workflow with AI dubbing in three languages (Spanish, German, and Simplified Chinese). Here’s our checklist, including recommendations and issues to remember before production starts:
- Find proven AI voice-over tool with a dubbing sync feature and a trusted lip-sync platform (we use LipDub AI). Carefully read the platforms’ privacy policies to ensure that required data protection standards are met.
- Keep in mind that dubbing-sync aligns the new audio with the original video’s timing. But that alignment can make translated speech unnaturally fast or slow.
- Choose your way to normalize the pace: adapt the translation to match the source speaking duration up front, or adjust the video timing (with client approval) and correct the pitch if you time-stretch the audio.
- Bring in a native speaker to review pronunciation, pacing, stress, and pauses, and to provide recommendations for the production operator.
- Apply those recommendations, then re-check the tempo.
- Upload the corrected video and audio tracks to your chosen lip sync tool. Don’t forget to give the final output one more QA round.
